Links to commercial websites.

Many Section Webmasters have implemented links to manufacturers and other commercial Websites--this is expressly prohibited.

Underlying this regulation is the issue of fairness. Imagine the complications that arise when a Section Webmaster links to Websites he or she deems appropriate; what's relevant to one Member might be commercial to another Member. Therefore, as stated in the Section Guide, "The Section/Region may not link to other pages, other than the IESNA, without prior approval from the Society's Office." When submitting the Website Submittal Form, you must list 1) What link(s) will be on the Website 2) Why the link is appropriate for the Website.

Examples of acceptable links:

  • A link from a Region Website to a Section Website within it's district.
  • A link from a Section/Region Website to a local not-for-profit website (e.g., Electrical Coops, etc.)

Unacceptable Links:

  • A link that exists or should exist on the official IES Website.
  • Manufacturers or other commercial Websites.
