Hi! We’re back! Time to discover more about this
fascinating world of lighting. Now that you are all experts in the
“nuts and bolts”, let’s start to build something
(we’re assuming you discovered the uproariously witty and enjoyable
first module).
This time, we’re going to delve into some lighting applications,
hence the title “Discover Lighting Applications.”
We start out with a section called “Lighting Techniques”,
describing those lighting methods that are used in the ensuing two
applications we will explore in this module – Residential Lighting
and Retail Lighting. Here are some of the areas we’ll cover:
|
|
|
Lighting Techniques – accent lighting, wall
washing, grazing – can change (and hopefully improve) the
look and feel of any space, large or small.
Personality
– Lighting is an important part of the image and first impression
a space presents to its guests. It doesn’t matter if it’s
the personality of a home or of a retail brand.
Use – Understanding the occupants
needs and intended use of the space is an important first step in
every application.
Image
(high end, low end, Land’s End) – clever application
of lighting techniques and integration of color, contrast, and brightness
considerations can make a space feel modest or upscale (independent
of the amount of money spent on hardware).

Certificate
of Completion
This
is a new feature of the Discover Lighting series. A QUIZ
has been added at the end for your enjoyment (don’t worry –
it’s optional). In the event that you pass, you will receive a Certificate
of Completion in the mail. Not quite as valuable as an MBA
but, hey, it’s free! The passing grade is 80% based on 350 questions
(just kidding! – there are only 15 questions).
The QUIZ
feature has also been added to the first module, Discover Lighting.
Yet another Certificate of Completion is available if you go back and pass
that one (Good luck!). |

Pop-Up Windows
You'll also see linked
text sprinkled throughout the sections -- this is an invitation
for you to use your mouse to poke around and learn more about the topic
at hand in separate pop-up windows.
Screen Resolution
To minimize the need for scrollbars, this website is best enjoyed at a screen
resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. |
| So, once again, grab
your mouse, hold onto your disk drive, and let’s Discover
Lighting Applications! |
