IES Emerging Professional Sponsorship

IES Sections and Corporate Sponsors Investing in Tomorrow’s Leaders

Each year, IES sections and corporate sponsors step up to provide funds to support the attendance of emerging professionals (EPs) —which includes students and early career professionals—at the IES Annual Conference and the IES EP Workshop that precedes the conference.

The number of awards will vary each year, depending on available sponsorships. IES EP Sponsorships will be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students and to EPs (individuals working in the lighting profession for five or fewer years.) The IES EP Sponsorship is intended to offset flight, lodging and IES Annual Conference registration expenses. IES membership is not a prerequisite for sponsorship.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Qualified individuals must submit a one-page essay to the IES EP Workshop Committee. This form must be signed and accompanied with the essay.

SELECTION PROCESS
IES EP Sponsorships will be awarded to applicants who are eager to learn more about the lighting industry and demonstrate an interest in future involvement in the IES.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. Relevance – Will attending the IES EP Workshop and the IES Conference help the applicant achieve his or her specific educational and/or career goals?
  2. Interest – What does the applicant expect to gain from the IES EP Workshop and the IES Conference? How will attendance at the IES EP Workshop and the IES Conference relate to the applicant’s future as an active IES member?
  3. Communication – Are the ideas expressed in the essay communicated effectively and efficiently?
For the 2016 IES EP Workshop (October 22) and Annual Conference (October 23-25, 2016, Orlando, Florida) applications must be received by no later than September 8, 2016.

Applications should be sent to:
Lisa J. Reed
epsponsorship@ies.org

Applicants who wish to apply for both the Young Professional Scholarship and the IES EP Sponsorship may do so, but a complete and separate application must be submitted to both programs. The closing date for both applications is September 8, 2016. Only one scholarship/sponsorship will be awarded to an individual.
