This Technical Committee researches and develops best practices for daylighting through the dual use of daylight and electric lighting controls.
Scope
Included subject matter: The scope includes daylighting interior spaces. • Excluded subject matter: This committee does not cover performance aspects of fenestration design not pertaining to lighting and thermal load consideration.

Committee Chair - Dan Weissman
Dan Weissman AIA, IALD, IES is an Architect, award-winning Lighting Designer, researcher, educator, and craftsman; he is an Associate Principal and Director of Lam Labs at Lam Partners in Cambridge, MA. As Director of Lam Labs, Dan leads endeavors in digital technologies, daylighting design, and academic engagement. In addition to serving as Chair of the IES Daylighting Committee, Dan is an active member of IES Sustainable Design committee, Solemma’s Climate Studio Product Advisory Group, and the Greenlight Alliance. He periodically teaches at Harvard Graduate School of Design, as well as regularly guest lectures nationally and internationally. He has published numerous articles and authored/co-authored peer-reviewed papers, notably ‘The Daylit Area’ studies with Christoph Rinhart & Terek Radka, and most recently, “Heliotropic Shading Daylighting a Rare Books Reading Room with Electrochromic Glass and Parametric Analysis” published in Leukos in July 2023. Dan holds a Master in Design Studies degree in Sustainable Design from Harvard Graduate School of Design, a Master in Architecture from the University of Michigan, a Certificate in Design Education from the Boston Architectural College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. An avid musician and amateur luthier of mandolin-family instruments, Dan also tends a garden, and two children along with his artist wife Lanie, and bakes two sourdough loaves a week.
Committee Vice-Chair - Dane Sanders
Dane Sanders joined Clanton & Associates, Inc. in 2002. With strong design and technical skills in lighting, daylighting and controls, Dane approaches challenging projects with inspired and innovative designs. Several of his projects are LEED certified, including six LEED Platinum projects. His project experience includes museums, exhibits, art galleries, convention centers, commercial interiors, streetscapes, and public realm. He is a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Colorado Illumination Engineering Program for daylighting, lighting controls, and advanced lighting design and detailing. He also speaks at lighting and energy conferences such as LightFair and Greenbuild.
