Alex Baker

Alex heads government affairs and public policy efforts for the IES, working closely with federal and state agencies, elected officials, and allied organizations. With 20 years in the lighting industry, Alex previously worked in standards development for Philips, Lumileds, and the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR program, and also worked in lighting specification sales in New York City. Alex is a longstanding member of the IES, having participated in the development and maintenance of definitions, methods of measurement and related technical memoranda for solid-state lighting products through the Testing Procedures and Nomenclature Committees. In a prior life, Alex worked as a Gaffer and Best Boy in film and television production. Alex received a Master of Science in Lighting from the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is Lighting Certified by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions.
