[12.1.3] Strictly, those functions relating to destruction of bacteria. The general term for destroying bacteria, fungi, and viruses is germicidal.

Note: In relation to ultraviolet radiation, it has been common to speak of bactericidal instead of germicidal action. This has not commonly been a problem because the germicidal action spectrum is similar for all three. Starting with RP-16-05, germicidal will be used consistently unless bactericidal is specifically intended.
