Advanced Lighting Education (ALE)

A brief overview of the history of DMX, how it’s used today, how to design DMX for different applications, and an overview of systems and products. Special feature on what considerations there are for emergency DMX lighting. This will be a longer presentation than usual, so come ready for a thorough deep dive into DMX controls. While we encourage you to attend this event in person, we will also be offering Advanced Lighting Education live over Zoom. You will be sent a meeting link closer to the event date.
- Understand the origination and development timeline of the DMX protocol.
- Identify project applications where DMX would be suitable.
- Draw a basic DMX one-line for a functional system.
Shane Lacey has been involved in the lighting and control industry for 40 years, beginning in entertainment lighting and currently Principal of GLS Lighting and Control since 2003. His lighting and lighting control experience span many sectors of the lighting industry including electronics manufacturing, concert and club lighting, public assembly and performance venues, broadcast studios, commercial buildings, residential buildings, hospitality facilities, sports venues, to name a few. Lacey’s educational background in Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) at University of Nebraska – Omaha (UNO) combined with his work in an electronics manufacturing facility and his lighting industry experience result in an in-depth understanding of lighting fixtures, illumination, and lighting control equipment as well as building electrical systems and egress lighting control. Lacey has been an IESNA member since 1998 and maintains membership in the Lighting Control Association (LCA) and Entertainment Services Technology Association (ESTA).
