About the Speakers:

Morgan PattisonMorgan Pattison has a PhD in Materials Science from U.C. Santa Barbara with thesis research on GaN based micro-cavity LEDs advised by Professor Shuji Nakamura. Upon graduation in 2006 Morgan went to work for the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory to manage R&D on energy saving lighting for the DOE SSL R&D Program. After 2 years with the DOE, Morgan started an LED and lighting focused technology consulting business, SSLS. He has continued to consult to the DOE for over 14 years, acting as Senior Technical Advisor for the last 8 years. Within the topic of horticultural lighting, Morgan has written analyses and peer-reviewed journal articles on energy and horticultural efficacy implications with LED lighting technology. He was a member of the IES Horticultural Lighting Committee, co-authoring RP-45, “Recommended Practice: Horticultural Lighting”. He has also developed advanced horticultural lighting products and managed large-scale R&D on cannabis responses to different light spectra at different growth phases. Currently, Dr. Pattison is working with clients developing lighting technology and light recipes for automated greenhouse growth of lettuce and greenhouse growth of hops.

Frank SharpFrank Sharp is a Principal Technical Leader at EPRI’s Knoxville facility and brings over 25 years of real-world experience resolving unique technical issues to his work. Currently, Mr. Sharp manages or co-manages all lighting research and indoor agriculture, as well as portions of data center research and end use device research, at EPRI. As a part of EPRI’s work, Frank, and EPRI’s lighting, data center, indoor agriculture, and appliance research teams, conduct research on the real-world operation and performance of a wide range of electric lighting, daylighting, lighting control, indoor agriculture, data center, and end use appliance technologies. These efforts result in educating and informing a variety of parties on the performance and impact of these technologies and systems.
