Committee Purpose, Scope and Documents

 
Purpose
This Technical Committee researches and develops best practices for sustainable lighting design which is visually effective and appealing with environmental and economic value.
Scope

Included subject matter: The scope includes elements of sustainable lighting design, environmental assessment of lighting practices, light source and luminaire design specific to sustainability, and lighting product disposal. Excluded subject matter: This committee does not cover energy efficiency programs or energy efficient lighting that falls outside the realm of sustainability.

Committee Chair

Kenneth O. Latal

Kenn Latal is a Senior Manager at ICF in the Commercial Energy Division – Program Implementation group. Mr. Latal currently leads the New York State Clean Heat Program for Con Edison and Orange and Rockland Utilities focused on encouraging heat pump installations and a pilot for Con Edison to install Aquanta Wi-Fi connected gas water heater controls in single family homes within Westchester County New York. He works with contractors, customers and vendors to facilitate installation and evaluation. Mr. Latal has more than 39 years in the electrical and energy efficiency industries and worked with trade allies (distributors, contractors and specifiers) and customers in various capacities. After starting his career working for an electrical distributor, he progressed through working as a lighting manufacturer representative to over ten years as an energy efficiency account manager and five years managing various energy efficiency programs focused on outreach to distributors and contractors as industry partners. Mr. Latal has maintained his LC from NCQLP since 2003, served on the NCQLP LC Test Committee, participated in the IES Sustainable Lighting Committee, and held various offices in the local Albany NY IES section. Most recently, Mr. Latal has been supporting Con Edison and New York State Electric and Gas / Rochester Gas & Electric (NYSEG/RG&E) through the Heat Pump Planning process related to the New Efficiency: New York proceedings with the Joint Utilities, NYSERDA and New York Public Service Commission Staff. For NYSERDA, Mr. Latal managed both a technical review team evaluating various energy efficiency applications through desktop, pre- and post-inspections; and commercial baseline study team facilitating inventory of energy using equipment in about 800-buildings across New York State.
