BIOS and Lumileds have joined forces to create a new LUXEON LED with SkyBlue circadian technology. The 3030 mid-power LED doubles previously available chip performance and reduces the lumen per dollar development barrier facing manufacturers.
Using science originated at NASA, BIOS created SkyBlue circadian technology, which engages with a non-visual photoreceptor in the eye. During the day, SkyBlue is meant to strengthen circadian rhythm, increase alertness, improve focus and boost moods. During the evening, it creates a warmer atmosphere that promotes natural melatonin production for a better night’s sleep.
“We are able to double lumen output in our 3030 package and enable system performance to increase from 110 to 160 lumens per watt. This can reduce the bill of materials, put utility rebates into play and ultimately reduce end-user pricing,” says Willem Sillevis-Smitt, head of marketing at Lumileds.
