The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced the creation of its new Seismic Council. The NEMA Seismic Council seeks to assist manufacturers with their efforts to qualify their equipment, help NEMA develop product-specific Standards, and monitor critical seismic Standards such as the International Building Code model code, ASCE/SEI 7 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures Standard and the AC 156 Seismic Certification by Shake-table Testing of Nonstructural Components.

“Seismic qualification is a complex technical issue that affects many NEMA Members’ products. Electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers need help simplifying seismic qualification. Through the council, we want to develop equipment qualification through consensus-based standards for NEMA Members’ products, providing a bridge between building code provisions and electrical and medical imaging equipment qualification best practices,” says NEMA industry director, building infrastructure, Daniel Abbate. “Our goal with the council is to help manufacturers simplify the process for seismic qualification of electrical and medical imaging equipment while improving the equipment’s earthquake resistance.”
