Airing live, ITV’s This Morning is one of the longest running daytime programs on British television. Last December, the show featured a number of segments broadcast from outside locations at Television Centre in London. Matt Carter—head of lighting for ITV Daytime—and his team set out to find lighting that would flatter the presenting talent without hindering their eyesight.
“In the past they have found the traditional HMI Fresnel lights to be harsh in their eyes, preventing them from easily reading autocue,” says Carter, who settled on fos/4 panel lights from ETC. The team used two 24×24 lights with Daylight HDR Array and two 8×24 with Lustr X8 Array to create softness on the faces of the talent and to keep flesh tones warm—without making the talent’s job any harder than it already is.
