Last Look: Balloons Fly High

With the installation of 16 “balloon lights” on the esplanade of Munich’s Allianz Arena, the stadium’s exterior lighting is now on par with its interior. Mounted atop 18-meter (59-ft) high light poles, the 6-meter (20-ft) high balloons (Zumtobel) utilize a solid, plastic envelope and LEDs to maintain the shape of existing air-cushion construction balloon fixtures and reduce maintenance needs, while providing even illumination across the area.Photo: Faruk Pinjo/Zumtobel Group
