February 14, 2016 – The seemingly overnight transition from traditional lighting to solid-state lighting has greatly expanded the lighting realm, infusing lighting into the world of electronics. One example of this was from the recent meeting of the Sustainability Committee of the Institute of Transportation Engineers in Washington, DC. Autonomous vehicles was one of the topics. What, you may ask, does this have to do with lighting?  Well, a lot. Autonomous (or self-driving) vehicles will perform vehicle-to-vehicle communication but also could communicate with roadway lighting, which is destined for connectivity and integration into the transportation infrastructure.  For more on lighting connectivity, click here to see the recent LD+A article from researchers at Virginia Tech.
