Standards

The IES is dedicated to improving the lighted environment by bringing together those with lighting knowledge, and by translating that knowledge into actions that benefit the public. With nearly 50 technical committees comprised of over 1,000 volunteer subject matter experts, the IES provides stability and predictability to the lighting market for the benefit of the industry and the public through its standards development initiatives as an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Developer. The standards approval process is based on a rigorous consensus approach with several layers of oversight and public commentary — resulting in five collections of impartial, practical lighting guidelines and resources known as the IES Lighting Library.
