photocataractogenesis

[12.9.5] Clouding (opacification) of the lens in the eye as a result of lifelong exposure to excessive radiant energy in the ultraviolet or infrared parts of the optical spectrum.

Note: The classic “glass-blower’s cataract” is an example of an infrared heat cataract, whereby an individual has been exposed to high-temperature furnaces for years without adequate eye protection.
