color space

[4.10]

A mathematical and/or graphical representation of colors.  Color spaces can be devised that represent all perceivable colors or only those colors that can be realized on a particular display or print medium (usually called “gamut”).  The loci of colors may be expressed in different formats, such as chromaticity coordinates (CIE) or perceptual descriptors (e.g., hue, saturation, brightness; or hue, chroma, luminance).
