auxiliary equipment

[8.2] The reactor or ballast and, if required, starting device needed for the proper operation of discharge lamps. The auxiliary equipment is used to limit lamp current and provide proper starting voltage and is essential because discharge lamps have a negative volt-ampere characteristic.
