IES Medal Award

The IES MEDAL shall be awarded for the purpose of giving recognition to meritorious technical achievement that has conspicuously furthered the profession, art or knowledge of illuminating engineering. Accomplishments shall be in the field of engineering, design, applied illumination, optics, ophthalmology, lighting, research or education.

Qualifications

Candidates need not be members of the IES.

Procedures

  1. All nominations must be submitted completely filled out on the IES Medal nomination form and must be accompanied by four other letters from individuals supporting the nomination. No current member of the Medal Committee or the IES Board of Directors may serve as a nominator, proposer, or reference for the nomination. The form is available at the link located at the top of this page.
  2. The letters should include details of the candidate’s accomplishments relative to the criteria of the Award. The Medal Award Committee evaluates a candidate on the information submitted.
  3. The deadline for the receipt of the five documents at IES office is March 31. Nominations received after that date will be held for consideration the following year. The Chief Proposer will be advised on or about June 1 regarding the results of the nomination.

The Award

The award consists of a two and one-half inch diameter medal and a framed certificate. The award is presented at the IES Annual Conference.
