Committee Purpose, Scope And Documents

Purpose

This Technical Committee researches and develops best practices for lighting in multi-media and video conferencing facilities.

Scope

Included subject matter: The scope includes multi-media and video conferencing facilities. Excluded subject matter: This committee does not cover large venues, rooms with more than 25 seats, broadcast studios, or distance education facilities.

Committee Leadership

Committee Co-Chair - Brooke Carter-Silber

C. Brooke Silber is BR+A’s Lighting Studio Director housed in the New York City Office. Brooke has over 25 years of experience as an architectural and landscape lighting designer with a passion for large scale public and private projects. Her award-winning portfolio includes a diversity of project types including; historic preservation, corporate interiors, civic buildings, academic institutions, security command centers, transportation facilities, museums, retail, hospitality, religious, and residential. Brooke received her Master of Science in Lighting from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lighting Research Center and her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University in Interior Design. She is a Lighting Certified Professional and a LEED Accredited Professional. In addition to chairing the joint IES/Avixa ANSI standard committee for Lighting for Videoconferencing and Multi-media Spaces; she is a part-time faculty at Parsons The New School of Constructed Environments for their Master’s program in Lighting. Brooke is an active member of IES and is a frequent speaker at many industry events such as LEDucation and Lightfair.

Committee Co-Chair - Norman Russell

Mr. Russell has contributed lighting design expertise to a wide variety of public and private projects. He completed graduate studies in lighting for theatre and television and compiled a significant list of lighting design credits. His background includes more than 45 years of production experience in lighting design work for theatre, broadcast television, video and film production, and educational facilities, extensive hands-on experience working with manufacturers and suppliers of lighting systems and equipment, advanced academic degrees, and five years of college and university lecturing. He holds B.A and M.A. degrees in Theatre Design, he is LC certified by the NCQLP, and holds memberships in the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and the Entertainment Services and Technology Association. Mr. Russell is currently a Principal Consultant with NV5 Engineering & Technology, formerly The Sextant Group, a technology consulting firm and leads the lighting design practice.
